 | 02:47 am - Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars I've always liked this one. I used to have the album on my work computer, but never remembered to download it at home until today.

 | 03:39 pm - The Many Flavors of Java Monster Unfortunately, I didn't have my regular camera with me, so this was the best I could do. But it was one of the most beautiful sights I've ever seen. I'd never seen all the flavors in one store before.
Also unfortunate was their price. Just a wee bit high.
 mood: enthralled

 | 10:20 am - Happy Friday the 13th I hope your day is better than Gepetto's.
I can't remember when the hell I drew this, but it amused me finding it a few days ago. It seemed appropriate to share today.

 | 01:42 pm - Where'd the new comics go?

The short answer: They've been moved to their new home.
The longer answer: I set up a website for them called Daily Wisdom. If you'd like to continue to see them on your LJ Friends page, you can add wisdomfortheday to your friends.
I'm having fun with the project and I hope you're enjoying it too. I feel like tomorrow's comic captures the American Spirit rather well. But you'll have to wait to see it.

 | 01:37 pm - I couldn't resist...
I was complaining to someone about not having an idea for today and they suggested the Fear of Commitment. Interestingly enough, it does not have it's own phobia name. Commitment phobia was coined by Steven Carter in his book Men who can't love. But for my purposes, I suppose it's good enough.

 | 02:47 am - Try new Colon Blow...

As I was making this, I kept thinking of the Saturday Night Live skit for Colon BlowTM.
"It would take over 30,000 bowls of your regular cereal to equal the fiber content in one bowl of Colon Blow."

 | 04:36 pm - Trying something a little different.
I thought I'd try something different for this one. I have some other ideas for X of the day too, but you'll have to wait to see those.
When I took Psychology in high school, I had a tendency to doodle in my notebook. When we were covering phobias, I ended up with several pages of doodles like this to illustrate them. I have no idea what happened to that notebook, but I remember most of them.
When I was in college, I had an idea to make a t-shirt with nine of them or so on the front. I ended up losing the computer that had the original design on it, so I was too frustrated with it to continue. I hadn't actually thought about it again until recently. I might try making one again after I do a few more of these.

 | 04:52 pm - Totally ridiculous...
Here in Oklahoma, it's been raining for 18 days now, with no end in sight. It's ridiculous.
I felt the need to ask someone if they thought this was all just a publicity stunt for Evan Almighty. I wouldn't put it past them.
|
 | 01:51 am - I'm not kidding...

I think I like this format better. Especially now that I've installed the handwriting font I like better.

 | 11:33 pm - More of a polite suggestion...

I borrowed this gag from The Long Dark Tea Time of the Soul by Douglas Adams. That's why he's driving on the "wrong" side of the road.
|
 | 01:41 pm - It's mean to poke fun at the misery of others... but sometimes it's funny.

Poor jenngurl...
She was telling me of her apartment flooding, and this was the first thing that popped into my head.

 | 12:44 pm - You left something on the roof of your car.
I just read a fun discussion about What is the international sign for "you left something on the roof of your car"? It's worth a read if you've got the time.
I once saw on the road a tiny car with a big mattress tied to the roof. However, a rope secured only the part in the middle, along the left and right sides. So, as the car ran, the mattress folded and exposed its bottom surface to the wind. I tried to imagine how that affected the car's aerodynamics at 60 mph.
It didn't occurred to me any international sign, though. Any standard sign would be of no use, since even if the driver stopped, the mattress would naturally unfold in the absence of wind and he would say: "no problem here!".

 | 10:29 am - Inappropriate Escalation of Conflict Day
Today is International Inappropriate Escalation of Conflict Day. I said so. It sounded like a good excuse to justify my action because I'm grumpy from sleep deprevation.
My first IM this morning was only *kick*. My response? *stab*. It seemed appropriate at the time.
The United States Marine Corps' "Continuum of Force" (found in MCRP 3-02B) documents the stages of Conflict escalation in combat for a typical subject. They are:
- Level 1: Compliant (Cooperative).
The subject responds to and obeys verbal commands. He refrains from close combat.
- Level 2: Resistant (Passive).
The subject resists verbal commands but complies to commands immediately upon contact controls. He refrains from close combat.
- Level 3: Resistant (Active).
Initially, the subject physically resists commands, but he can be made to comply by compliance techniques; these include come-along holds, soft-handed stunning blows, and techniques inducing pain by joint manipulation and pressure points.
- Level 4: Assaultive (Bodily Harm).
The unarmed subject physically attacks his opponent. He can be controlled by certain defensive tactics, including blocks, strikes, kicks, enhanced pain compliance procedures, impact weapon blocks and blows.
- Level 5: Assaultive (Lethal Force).
The subject has a weapon and will likely kill or injure someone unless controlled. This is only possible by lethal force, which possibly requires firearms or weapons.
Update: Thank you fuckin_nice_guy for the visual aid. mood: tired

 | 04:17 pm - Custom Disciplines by Request (or Here You Go, Josh)
It came up in conversation the other day, but I couldn't remember all of the powers or quite how they work. I remembered pretty well for not having looked at it in almost two years. It's a custom discipline I developed for a Vampire LAP several years ago. And here's the write up for it.
